A refill is usually simple when you want the same medication in the same way as your previous order.
But sometimes something changes between refills. Your prescriber may adjust the treatment, or you may want a different product, manufacturer, or quantity.
The important thing is to let us know before the refill is placed so we can make sure the next order matches what you actually need.
Some changes are order or product preferences
Not every change requires a new prescription.
For example, depending on the medication and what is available, you may want to:
- switch between brand and generic;
- request a different generic manufacturer;
- change the quantity you are ordering; or
- choose a different available product presentation.
If you have a brand, generic, or manufacturer preference, let us know before you place the refill so we can check availability and make sure the correct product is selected. Generic manufacturer availability can change, so a specific manufacturer may not always be available for every refill.
If the quantity you want is already available as an option on our website and your prescription allows that amount, you can usually select it yourself. If you need a quantity that is not shown online, let us know before you place the refill. We can review the prescription and help set up the quantity you need when appropriate.
These changes may be simple order or product preferences, but they still need to be supported by the prescription we have on file.

Other changes may require an updated prescription
If the treatment itself has changed, we may need a new or updated prescription before we can dispense the refill.
This can include changes such as:
- a different strength;
- different directions or dosing;
- a different dosage form;
- a different device or product presentation when it changes what was prescribed; or
- a different medication altogether.
In those situations, the previous prescription may no longer match what you are now taking.
Once we receive the updated prescription, our pharmacist can review it and continue with the refill.
What if your prescriber already sent the new prescription?
That is completely fine.
If your prescriber sends us an updated prescription before you place the refill, we can add it to your file and use it when the next order is prepared.
If you are not sure whether we have received it yet, you can contact us and we can check your file.
Tell us about changes before the refill is placed
The earlier we know about a change, the easier it is to make sure the next order is prepared correctly.
If you are unsure whether a change needs a new prescription, you do not need to figure that out yourself. Let us know what changed, and we can review it with you.
See our Contact Us (opens in a new tab) page for ways to reach us.
